ADS8686S: Layout for single layer

Genius 12705 points
Part Number: ADS8686S

Hello Team,

data sheet Fig. 127 shows how to place the C3, C5, C11 on the bottom side. Is it possible to place these 3 caps on the top side in case of a single layer pcb or is it mandatory to have a double layer pcb?

Maybe you can provide a single layer layout recommendation?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Hans

  • Hi Hans,

ADS8686S is a 16-bit ADC, usually at least a 4-layer pcb board is recommended. A 2-layer pcb board will not be easy to achieve the performance specified in the datasheet. I did not see any customers designing a 16-Bit ADC on a single layer pcb board, also I do not think you can achieve the performance specified in the datasheet, this is definitely not recommended.

  • Hello Dale,

thank you for quick reply. When using a 4 layer pcb is it possible to place C3, C5, C11 on the top instead on the bottom side? If placing all parts on the top side this would save production cost.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    Hans

  • Hi Hans,

Yes, they can be placed on top side for 4-layer board. However, please place them to the ADC as close as possible.

    Regards,

    Dale
