AMC1306E05: Selecting AMC1306E05 vs AMC1306M05

I am wondering what the practical tradeoffs would be in selecting the Manchester Encoded variant of the AMC1306 vs the non-encoded variant. I will be interfacing with a TMS320F28379D which seems to support both options. I am hoping to use reference design TIDA-01455 to take advantage of the fast fault detection as well as the slower, but more accurate full resolution option.

The reference design TIDA-01455 seems to favour the non-encoded AMC1306 while the datasheet for the AMC1306 shows the Manchester Encoded version in the typical applications on page 1.

Hi Euan,

The benefit of Manchester Encoded is that the clock signal is included within the datastream. This is helpful if the MCU peripherals are resource constrained.

However, I would recommend not using Manchester Encoded with the TMS, as there are noise sensitivities and clock accuracy restrictions outlined in the Errata “SDFM: Manchester Mode (Mode 2) Does Not Produce Correct Filter Results Under Several Conditions” found on the product page.

Thanks for this. I'll steer clear of the Manchester Encoding then to avoid this issue.
