DAC3484: IQ modulator correction

Expert 1730 points

Hello,

To be able to use the QMC (quadrature modulation correction) feature in the DAC3484 does the DAC output have to be DC coupled to the IQ modulator or does it also work with AC coupling?

2) It is possible to generate an IF using only a real input (no I and Q, only I centered at the IF). How is it different than using I and Q and using the complex mixer to generate the IF.

Thanks for your help,

  • Hi,

    1. To correct for image (sideband), you can AC couple with QMC gain/phase correction. To correct for LO leakage, you will need to be DC coupled for the QMC offset correction.

    2. You can have independent data streams. However, you cannot use NCO complex mixers as they will generate sidebands due to cross couple of the two data streams. See arithmetic for detail.
