ADS5463-SP: Single-ended input without differentiating

Part Number: ADS5463-SP

Hello team,

My customer has a question about single-ended input of ADS5463-SP.

This ADC is a differential input type, but is it possible to use it for a single-ended input signal?

In the data sheet application, a transformer or differential amplifier is used to convert the single-ended input signal to a differential signal, but the customer wants to input the 50Ω single-ended signal to the AIN pin without differentiating it. So if there is a recommended circuit (AIN, AINB, VREF peripheral circuit) for single-ended input, please let me know.

Also, I would appreciate it if you could tell me what kind of difference the AD conversion performance is between single-ended and differential.

Best Regards,
Ryotaro Fukui

  • Fukui-san:

It is not recommended to operate the ADC directly in a single-ended fashion.  You will not get the full scale operation of the ADC.  SNR performance will suffer and the harmonic content, especially HD2, will be very poor.

Instead, reference section 8.1.1 in the datasheet.  It outlines the use of the transformer for converting SE-to-Diff or using an op-amp to do the same.  These are better alternatives.
