DAC8734: Bipolar Range Change

Part Number: DAC8734

Hi Team,

My customer was under the impression that they could use the gain register to control the FSR of the Output independent of the outside connection path. I am not sure I understand the datasheet.

Is it capable of true Bipolar range change with just software? Or does it require a outside connection as well?

Thanks,
Mitchell

  • Mitchell,

Sorry about the delay in answering this question. I think switching between unipolar and bipolar mode requires an external connection to the DAC. Specifically, you would set the UNI/BIP-A, and UNI/BIP-B to either IOVDD or GND to set the output to unipolar or bipolar mode respectively. The two pins control the Group A or Group B DACs of the device.

Has the customer described how they have the device set up? It might help to get a complete description of their circuit and their register settings.
