DAC81404: Unused sense lines

Part Number: DAC81404

Hi Team,

Our customer is currently considering DAC81404 as a candidate for a new product. He has reviewed the datasheet and some of the applications which shows that it is primarily a high current, remote power supply controller utilizing the sense lines. However, his application is different from the references provided and would like to know what to do with the sense lines if they are not used. How should the sense lines be treated? In his application, the DAC output would provide voltage to a load but the return current does not have a dedicated line, it merely follows the common ground plane. The current in the load is only 10 mA so it would seem IR drops are low and the sense line feedback and compensation is not necessary.  He doesn't have spare connector pins for sense lines to the remote load.

Danilo

  • Hi,

If customer does not have extra connector pins, they can do the following in the DAC board.

    1. Connect VSENSE_P to VOUT near to DAC81404

    2. Connect VSENSE_N to GND

compensation capacitor is mandatory which should be connected between VCOMP  and VOUT.

Essentially they will have only VOUT pin which goes to connector. Please note that there will be IR drop due to the 10mA load current and the resistance due to cable and connectors.

  • Hi AK,

Thank you very much for this solution.
