THS1206: Internal reference

Dear Team,

My automotive customer is using THS1206 in a project and has some questions. Thank you in advance for your support.

They decided to place a external voltage references (3.5V and 1.5V). In the block diagram, internal references are buffered. What is current draw from those references? Will be TL431 (or some similar shunt regulator) enough or OPAMP must be used for buffering?

    Hi Daniel,

    Unfortunately I do not have any detail on the current consumption from the internal reference of the THS1206.  My concern with using the TL431 would be with stability - the current drawn will be dynamic.  The references need to be bypassed (10uF ideally) so the TL431 should be stable, but I do not know how well they will do without a static load.  There is an app note for the TLA431 devices here that talk about the stability of the devices which you can find here: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva482a/slva482a.pdf.  Is there any particular reason for not using the internal reference in your application?

    Thank you Tom for the information and collateral. 

    The customer ended up using LM4041 as it is more stable for them. They measured currents and VREFP draws 1.2mA and VREFM 0.7mA. With a 10uF capacitor, it should be enough. The tolerances of internal reference in THS1206 were not acceptable for their application.
