DAC5672: 275Msps and FPGA

Part Number: DAC5672

Hello team,

My customer considers DAC5672 in their design however they concern if FPGA can drive input interface(3.3V, 275Mbps/pin) appropriately.

Their minimum requirement is 250Msps.

DAC5672's Tsu and Th is 1ns and CLK cycle of 250MHz is 4ns. Therefore Tr/Tf requirement will be less than 2ns.

Customer thinks 3.3V/2ns may be not easy for FPGA as their first impression.

They consider below FPGA as candidate.

Do you think DAC5672 will work with below FPGA for 275Msps or 250Mbps operation without any problem?

  • Cyclone4 E(C8 grade)
  • Cyclone10 LP(C8 grade)
  • Artix7 (-2 grade)

Best regards,

  • Taketo,

If the FPGA's mentioned in this post have the same data sheet specs as the Altera EP4SGX70HF35C3N FPGA, they should work just fine. This is the FPGA used by the TSW1400EVM which works with the DAC5672EVM up to 275Msps data rates. Other considerations to take into account is the board layout. I would suggest to place the DAC as close as possible to the FPGA and maybe add series dampening resistors to minimize any reflections or ringing.

    Regards,

    Jim
