Dear TI expert,

I am reading SLWU087D, in the Introduction, I quote "provide high speed data transfers (2Gbps USB 3.0
systems, 320Mbps USB 2.0 systems) between the host pc and the pcb.".

Should it be 5 Gbps if it is compliant with the USB 3.0 standard?

"With a 3.0 system, the user can capture 1GBytes in ≈ 20 seconds. With a 2.0 system, around 45 seconds."

Even use the 2.0Gbps, the time difference should be about 1 to 6 ratio. which is around 7 seconds.

Did I miss anything here?

Hi David,

You are correct regarding the transfer speed for USB 3.0. The CYUSB301x datasheet specifies the transfer speed as 5Gbps. We are currently in the process of updating the user guide and I will be sure to make this change.

The capture time for 1GBytes with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 mentioned in the user guide includes the time taken for configuring firmware, data transfer from DDR to PC and the post processing of data. The resulting capture time (by including all these steps) is mentioned in the document at the various test procedure sections beginning at Section 4 on page 37.

Hi David, I have a quick correction:

The link speed is 5Gbps, but with packet overhead and handshaking latency the effective throughput will be approx. 2Gbps.

The theoretical limit on the Cypress FX3 is 32b * 100MHz (3.2Gbps) , which is the rate and bandwidth of the FPGA interface. We can get close to this on large transfers.
