ADS1294: When to use PWDN over turning off power to entire device?

Part Number: ADS1294

I've had the entire chip (DVDD, 1.8V) as well as its power supplies (+/-1.5V) on a separate supply chain that was tied to PWDN/RESET. Thus, a LOW on that line would shutdown everything. I'm considering just putting the bipolar supply on a shutdown line and using the SHDW/RESET line to enter a low power mode. I'm curious what the advantages are of either configuration? My initial config was to ensure a very low power 'sleep mode' by taking the device entire offline, but it's power down current is so low, I might prefer that in the future. Thanks,

  • Hi Matt,

    Thanks for the post.

The PWDNB pin enables the system to power down, specifically the ADS129x device, while keeping the rest of the critical circuitry on. If your system allows you to shut down the whole power supply rail, then it is feasible to use this method as well.

    Thanks
