ADS1100: Conversion time for ads1100

Part Number: ADS1100

Hello,

Some customers are evaluating the ADS1100. The costomer doesn't think the conversion time is specified in the data sheet.
the customer wants to read the AD-converted value at the right time. What should the customer do?

Current settings: single conversion mode, 128sps, gain 1

Best regards,
DDdoor

  • Hello DDoor,

I do not understand what the customer is asking?

Do they want to be able to read the output directly after they sample the input? in other words, zero latency? this device has a single cycle conversion, thus providing this.

What does the customer mean by the right time?

    Regards

    Cynthia

  • Hello Cynthia,

    Thank you for your reply.

The customer wants to access the register when the ST / BSY bit reaches 0 without extra access.
How many millisecond should they wait after writing 1 to the ST / BSY bit.

    Best regards,
    DDdoor

  • DDdoor,

I believe I understand the question now. The customer would like to read the conversion result without checking the ST/BSY register.

The conversion rate depends on the user configurable DD Register. Based on this, the datasheet provides the conversion rate range expected, as shown in the image below. Note that this provides a range on time, I would suggest using the longest time to be sure there are no intermittent  readings.

    • DR 00 128sps typical 104sps slowest (9.62ms delay from start of conversion until time to read result)
    • DR 01 32sps typical 26sps slowest (38.46ms delay from start of conversion until time to read result)
    • DR 10 16sps typical 13sps slowest (76.92ms delay from start of conversion until time to read result)
    • DR 11 8sps typical 6.5sps slowest (153.85ms delay from start of conversion until time to read result)

    Regards

    Cynthia
