Is the LM9833 in the remit of this imaging devices section ?
Is it obsolete ?
I have a project where the 9833 would fit nicely, but I'm worried about supply
Any info, or better places to ask ?

Hi Steve
As far as I am aware there are no plans to obsolete the LM9833 device.
However since it is an older product the only support collateral we have is the product datasheet. There is no software or EVM for this device.
I hope this is helpful.
Best regards,
Jim B
Hi Jim
Thanks for getting back so soon.
EVM ? I've been TLA'd. And wiki's aren't coming up with anything sensible. What does EVM mean in this context ???
The continuing survival is helpful to know. Are there any more modern parts that can do USB to linear CCD.
Steve
Hi Steve
Sorry for the TLA. EVM is EValuation Module.
I can provide schematics for the board we used for internal bench testing and prototyping, but that's all I have.
I don't know of any other parts that incorporate the USB I/F. We stopped development of the 'scanner-on-a-chip' parts when things were moving from Full-Speed (12 Mbits/sec) to Hi-Speed (480 Mbits/sec). At that point it was more cost effective (development time and device cost) to have the USB interface in a micro-controller which then interfaced to the CCD AFE/Timing part.
Best regards,
Jim B
Thanks for the education ;-)
I'm making a very slow scanner - I need to freak the thing out to allow it to integrate for a long time with a chilled linear sensor.
The diagrams would be really useful if you woudn't mind sending them.
I'd toyed with a newer part- and then spotted the part with everything in one place ! Maybe I should revisit the scheme and start with something else.
Many Thanks !
Steve
Hi Steve
Here is the schematic of the bench board.
I hope it is helpful.

Hi Jim.
The project's progressing nicely thanks to your help.
Did National ever do a reference USB driver for the 9833 ? I see that the SANE project seems to have a driver solution, but I wondered if you'd kickstarted that with some codebase ?
Thanks.
Steve
