Problem with ADS62P29 Eval Board USB Driver for SPI Interface

Hello everyone,

I am trying to use the ADS62P29 Eval Board with an Altera Cyclone 3 FPGA Development Kit.

I want to use the TI SPI Software to set up the ADC to test-mode to verify the connection to the FPGA Board. I installed the SPI Software including the USB drivers.

I am using the USB Blaster to programm my FPGA.

When i plug in the USB cable to connect the ADC Board to my computer the hardware is not recognized. But if use the Altera Programmer software to "scan chain" the TI SPI interface shows up in my hardware manager for a few seconds and then disappears again. I am using Windows 7 32 Bit OS. I also tried to connect the ADC Board via USB to a Windows XP computer, but this one doesnt recognize it either!

When I try to write ADC registers via the SPI software, the following error message occurs : Error 1 occured at FT_SetBitMode: Set Bit Bang

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

I solved the problem. The SPI interface was interfering with the altera USB blaster!!

Felix,

Just to complete this topic, I believe the Altera USB blaster uses the same FTDI USB chip that the EVM uses. There was likely some confusion between the programming software and the SPI gui about which USB chip to grab. Note that once a USB handle is connected, Windows will no longer show it as a free USB port.

The solution should be to first plug in the ADS62P49 EVM and allow the SPI software to connect to it. After that, the USB blaster should be able to be safely connected to the programming software.

Hi, I get this problem but I don't use any other programs. What else could be the cause?

I am also not sure if I first pluged in the USB or installed the program.

What version of Windows are you running? Do you get any error message?

Hi, I am running Vista. Your colleague send me some instructions for Windows 7. Unfortunately, I did't have all the hardware since I got the instructions, so I didn't try it yet. When I connected the board first time, the drivers installed by themselves, not like in the instructions. I have the feeling that I just need to change in the properties that the driver does not use VCP.

I get the same error an Felix: Error 1 occured at FT_SetBitMode: Set Bit Bang.

The instructions for Windows 7 don't work on Windows Vista...

I followed the instructions. It was slightly different then described, in the way that the driver installed by himself, after that I wanted to update the driver with the one from FTDI, but it said that I allready have that driver. Then I unchecked "load VCP" and reinstalled the software but it is not working.

What else could be the problem for this error?
