TSW1400 firmware problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS4229, DAC3152, ADS42JB69

when connect  ads4229  with TSW 1400, it's always require to update the new firmware? So i do't know if the firmware is what i need ,l have check the setup files of high speed data convertor ,but i can't find the firmware of ADS4229 .I want to ask if there are ADS4229 firmwares files  to manual download to FPGA?

  • Hi,

If you install the latest version of the High Speed Data Converter Pro from the TI web, then you will already have everything you need installed.  The message that you see every time about 'updating' the firmware simply means that the GUI wants to load the firmware into the hardware.  The FPGA on the TSW1400 hardware does *not* have an eeprom next to it to hold the firmware so the firmware is loaded from the PC into the FPGA every time.  The firmware comes with the GUI installation for all EVMs that are released and supported by the TSW1400.  We did it this way so that there would be no need to have to upgrade hardware over time as new EVMs are released.  By comparison, the TSW1200 had its FPGA firmware in an eeprom on the board, and then after a couple of years of supporting the TSW1200 we would have to have the TSW1200 returned to TI to put new firmware in the eeprom after new firmware became available.  We wanted to avoid that with TSW1400, so we didn't put an eeprom on the board.  Now when we have new firmware, we just make a new release of the GUI installer to put on the TI web.  And every time the TSW1400 is powered up the GUI will tell you that it needs to 'update' the firmware into the FPGA.  Maybe update is not a good word to use - we do not mean you need to try to get new firmware from TI.  The firmware is already installed on your PC for the ADS4229.

If you were to get a new EVM for an ADC or DAC that is prior to official release, then you would maybe need to get a new firmware file to go with the TSW1400.  You can see all the firmware files in a folder under TSW1400 Details in the folder where the HSDC Pro GUI is installed.  All the devices supported by the GUI have an ini file in a folder called ADC Files, and the firmware is in the Firmware folder there.  The ini file has a name of a firmware needed for that device, so that is the link between selecting a device and having the GUI know what firmware to use.

  • Thanks Richard for quickly  reply !

But i still have another problem .That is when i update the firmware ,it's quite difficult to download firmware and GUI often provides me with the note "No firmware ."So the TSW1400's doesn't work .Does it have the matter with the USB cable ?and i have other choice to download firmware ?

  •       hello, nowadays,I am learning to use with TSW1400 and DAC3152,ADS4229,Now,I know the ADS4229 can connect with matlab to do some digital processing work,Aslo I want to know if the DAC3152 can contect wih the Matlab, and how?

          Thanks very much.

  • Ouyang Zhao,

There is a way currently, but it has not been easy to implement. This should be supported better in the next release of HSDCPro.

  • Richards,

I  have problem in firmware downloading in HSDC pro ,Previously what RWTH faced .But i have the firmware ADS42JB69,when i tried to download after 10 seconds it is showing the message "NO firmware Please select a device to load firmware into the board".Is there any problem in JTAG chain connection or USB cable?
