Ask TVP5158 industrial grade product life time

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP5158

Dear Sir,

We try to design automotive product which will use TVP5158 industrial grade chip.

But TI local agent tell us this product will be EOL and not recommended for our design.

I double check at TI website http://www.ti.com/product/tvp5158

I found TVP5158's status is "NRND".

I want to make sure TVP5158 industrial grade product life time.

Could you kindly help to clarify this important issue?

BR,

Rex Liao

  • Rex,

Thank you for bringing this topic up.  The entire TVP5158 family has been moved to Not Recommended for New Design (NRND).  NRND is used at Texas Instruments (TI) when their is an identified high risk for a customer beginning a new design on this device.  In this case, TI is no longer able to provide support (direct or in-direct) on this product.  So if during a design an issue arises that the current available documentation cannot address, there is a risk that finding a solution could be difficult.  TI realizes every customer's needs and experience is specific to that project and therefore their ability to tolerate or mitigate this risk will vary.

This NRND is not related to our ability to produce the devices.  There is no impact to the availability or ordering status of this and we have no plans to End of Life (EOL) at this time.  There is a common misconception that NRND is a standard intial step to EOL at TI.  In fact, these are two very different processes and status levels of a device.
