ADC34j22 EVM problems

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC34J22, DEV-ADC34J22

Thanks for your time. I have recently bought this ADC34j22 EVM board. It supposed to be DEV ADC34j22 but I have mistakely ordered ADC34j22 EVM. Anyway I have lots of questions and hoping for your helps.

1- How can I access to the converted digital value of this board? Is the FMC connector the only way? Is there anyway to receive the digital output and connect to GOIP pins of FPGA boards?

2- I have to make a feedback loop for some application and need to convert analog to digital to modify in FPGA. My analog input is a kind of special waveform. I have a square input with 100 Hz input frequency and 80 ns duty cycle. Every 10 ms I have 80 ns pulse.

Is it possible for this ADC34j22 EVM board to somehow convert this value to digital to modify in FPGA.

Appreciate for your instructions.

P.S: I have attached the waveform shape also. Square waveform final.doc

  • Reza,

Are you referring to the DEV-ADC34J22 EVM?

    Answers to your questions:

    1. All of our JESD204B interface device EVMs use the FMC connector to connect to our TSW14J50 and TSW14J56 capture cards for evaluation purposes.  For development purposes this FMC connector will also connect up to FPGA platforms from the FPGA vendors that have this connector on board.  To work with this EVM I would suggest either using one of our capture platforms for evaluation purposes or using a development platform from the FPGA vendor.

    2. You can use this ADC or any ADC to convert the analog signal into digital and then post process as needed.  The only thing to keep in mind is the input range of the ADC - check the datasheet of your ADC.  In this case the max should be 2Vpp differential.

If you are referring to the DEV-ADC34J22 EVM, that is an EVM developed by our partner Dallas Logic, this EVM plugs into the SOCKIT Cyclone V platform from Arrow.  This uses the HSMC connector.  For support on the DEV-ADC34J22 development you will need to contact Dallas Logic.

  • Hi Ken,

Thanks for information. I am talking about this board: ADC34J22 Evaluation Module. It has FMC connector.

What you are talking about is DEV-ADC34j22 which is equipped with HSMC connector and unfortunately I do not have it now.

Anyway could you please tell me Is there any other way to access the converted values of first board except  FMC?

Is there any demonstration or sample project  for ADC34J22 Evaluation Module?

It will be really helpful for me.

    Regards

    Reza

  • Reza,

For the TI EVM, you will need a connection to the FMC port to work.  This is currently only available on our TSW14J56 or TSW14J50 (lower cost), or equivalent FMC platforms from Xilinx or Altera (equivalent vendors with FMC based platforms).

Our TSW14J50/J56 + HSDC Pro software GUI will allow you to evaluate the ADC EVM, capture and analyze data.  We can provide the firmware source for the TSW14J56 as needed - it is based on the Altera ARRIA V.  We can also provide working projects for Xilinx KC705 and VC707.  You will have to reach out to Altera or Xilinx FAE if you want further development support.

  • Ken,

Hope you are doing well. I bought a DEV-ADC34j22 with HSMC connector and now I wanna connect it to my DE2-115 Altera board.
Is it possible? Where can I find pin assignment? Is there any demonstration project for this DEV-ADC43j22 module with an altera board?

    Regards
  • Reza,

The DEV-ADC34J22 is an EVM that was developed by our partners at Dallas Logic. More information including schematics can be found here. dallaslogic.com/.../

Please reach out to Dallas Logic for support. We are not able to connect this EVM into the TI eval platforms. I believe this was initially designed to connect to the Cyclone V SOCkit platform from Arrow. Dallas Logic should be able to provide you more information about this EVM.
