ADS1231REF Firmware Upgrade Not working

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1231REF

Suggestions?

  • Hello David,

Although I understand your reasoning for posting your question on the MSP Forum I'm going to move this thread to the Precision Data Converters Forum since their experts will be more directly involved with the firmware updater in question. That being said, did you follow the programming connection instructions provided in Section 6.6 of the ADS1131REF and ADS1231REF User's Guide? www.ti.com/.../sbau175a.pdf

It seems that communication exists between the host and target because you are able to perform a mass erase which returns an ACK, but failure to invoke the BSL is why an incorrect password is suspected. Is a custom BSL installed on this device or did you recently attempt to change the BSL password? Is there any way to change the password inside of the firmware upgrader?

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • Hi David,

The first thing is to avoid needing to download the firmware as this downloader program was written for the Win-XP operating system and due to timing issues will not work in most cases with an OS greater than XP.  This reference design was not meant to be a part of a development platform for rewriting or testing code.  At this time we do not have the available resources to create a new downloader to work with the newer OS.

That said, there is an option along the right side of the EVM where you can solder a header and program the MSP430 using a JTAG programmer.  I would suggest that you use this method for generating and downloading any new code.

    Best regards,
