ADS1298 Defibrillator Protection Circuit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298

I'm using ADS1298 in our ECG design.

I have gone through all the posts about "Defibrillator Protection Circuit" in the forum. The post and answers in

e2e.ti.com/.../882080

helps me a lot, but I still have some questions.

In TI's application report SPRAB36B, the front end schematic use this defibrillator protection circuit:

1. In the situaltion of ECG Defibrillator Protection, the neon lamp and the TVS diodes, which is better?

Can I use a TVS diodes to replace the DS1 in the schematic?

Althrough TVS has much small current limit than neon lamp, but I think in the case of 8kV, the current is only 8k/22k=0.36A. While the TVS has a much faster transient speed than neon lamp. So I think TVS is better than neon lamp in this case.

2. The SPRAB36B says R2 should>1W. What about the R3? Can I use a 1/8W resistor?

thanks
