ADS62P43 EVM board

Hi,

I am working with a ADS62P43 EVM board. I had purchased this board , but it was found defective . After several troubleshooting steps , I couldnt get a clock output from the board. SO I was advised by TI support to replace the board with a new board. I have the new board right now.  I am trying to achieve a Parallel CMOS interface. So I have set the following jumper settings

- JP15(2-3) and JP16(2-3)

- JP8(1-2), JP9(1-2) , JP10(1-2, JP11(1-2), JP5(1-2), JP6(1-2), JP7 (1-2)

- JP12(1-2) and JP14(7-8)

I am providing a 2 MHz clock input to the SMA pin J4 from a function generator (1.5 V p-p). 

I am powering the board with a 5V supply in P5 and P4 ( Shorted P4 and P2)

After these settings, I am able to receive a 2 MHz clock output from the header J8(pin 56) which is meant for LVDS interface. But I am not able to get a clock output on pin 39 of the J1 header which  is for CMOS interface.  I traced back the route in the board and I found out that the clock pin 39 in JI connector is not connected to the clock out coming from the ADS62p43 chip. 

What possible steps can I take to solve this issue??

  • Hi,

       When CMOS output is needed you have to modify the EVM board as following steps (for more details please see the EVM user guide),

         1) Remove resistor packs RN7, RN8, RN9 and RN10

         2) Install TI's buffer SN74AVC16244 into U12 and U13

    Does this mean that I have unsolder RN7, RN8, RN8 and RN10 and solder the buffer SN74AVC16244??

    Wouldn't this affect the routing of lines on the boards?? This detail has not been mentioned in the manual at all.

    Shouldn't the option of having a CMOS output be already available on the board??? Making such a modification for CMOS output looks risky. 

    I am just concerned that why would TI ask the users to make such modifications when it is claimed that ADS62P43 EVM can work both with LVDS and CMOS outputs. Is there any other solution??

     A:     Yes.

     A:    No, if you know how to do it :)   The user guide doesn't have any soldering information.

      A:   It sounds reasonable in some case. Unforturnately this is what we have now.

      A:   The board space is limited to put so many options on the board at same time, so we provide PCB layout (on board) and user guide for some options that the user can install it based on different applications.  Unforturnately, we don't have other solution at this time.

    After I replace the resistor banks with the buffer SN74AVC16244, is there any other modification that I need to do?? 

    Is there any way that I can make a modification to achieve both LVDS and CMOS outputs??
