ADS5562EVM: Break-out board for ADS5562EVM

Part Number: ADS5562EVM

Hello Team,

In regards to the ADS5562EVM I have a customer asking about the Break-out board that is used with this EVM.

 I do not see that this board is included with the EVM. However in the user guide the following statement leads me to believe that it does come with this board.

http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slwu061a/slwu061a.pdf

<Page 15 or section 2.2.4 Digital Outputs>

"Alternatively, the ADS61x9/55xx is supplied with a break-out board to easily connect the LVDS outputs to a logic analyzer pod. This LVDS break-out board also properly terminates the LVDS outputs once the breakout board is connected to J10."

Is this is a Typo? Or is this Break-out board supposed to be included with the EVM?

Any information is appreciated.

Have a great day!

Regards,

  • Hi,

    The break-out boards are generally supplied if and when they are requested.  The User Guide should have been more clear on that point.   When requested, we ship one out.   The vast majority of users don't request such a thing, and so it would be very wasteful to just ship one out with every EVM.  Before the time of our TSW1200 and later TSW1400 FPGA based capture cards it was almost a necessity that the person evaluating the ADC use a logic analyzer to capture the digital data.  Now, not so much.

    The breakout board has the Samtec connector to plug into the EVM connector.  From there the signal pairs route to a *footprint* that either a Tek or Agilent logic analyzer pod can connect to.  I am told that the two different pods can touch the same signal landings and share a common footprint, but there is a plastic and metal shell that attaches to the board and the pod snaps into it.  The shell is not the same for the two different logic analyzer vendors, and so the breakout board does *not* include this logic pod shell.  That would be supplied by the user for the logic pod they are using and assembled onto the breakout board.

    If your customer wants the breakout board, we can ship one out.  I would first suggest having them look at the schematic and layout of the breakout board to see if it is even something they can use.  The breakout board doesn't fit all possible logic analyzer pods.   Also - there are alternative breakout boards we have made through the years that have posts instead of the pod footprint so that the 'flying lead' style connections can be pushed down over the posts.  These may be of more interest, but the User Guide was clearly mentioning the version for the logic pod rather than posts.  I am attached a pdf of the layout of the breakout board to better show what it is.

  • Hi Richard,

    Thank you for your answer.

    I will follow up with the customer and let y'all know if they do decide they need that board.

    Have a great day!
