AMC1303E0520: About the need of RC filter

Part Number: AMC1303E0520
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC1303EVM

Hello.

My customer wants to consider to use the AMC1303.

They have the question, when they are designed the PCB pattern.

This device is descripted the follow.

"The typically recommended RC filter in front of a ΔΣ modulator to improve signal-to-noise performance of the
signal path is not required for the AMC1303."

in datasheet P.26 9.2.1.2 Detailed Design Procedure

But, this device's not only the Simplified Schematic but also EVM has RC filter.

If this need the RC filter, please let me know how much the value these do they need your recommend?

Best regards.

Hayashi

  • Hello Hayashi,

The AMC1303EVM only has placeholders for a filter. Please refer to the Bill of Material, section 5.2, table 6. Resistors R1 and R2 are zero ohm and capacitors C4, C5 and C8 are not installed, so technically there is no filter in place. These components were included on the EVM to easily accommodate a filter if one was desired.
  • Hello Tom san

    Thank you for your supports.
I miss that it was described to "not installed".

So, is it guaranteed without use filter?

    Best regards.

  • Hi Hayashi,

The datasheet specifications are based on the use conditions described in the datasheet.  I have seen applications where the use of a filter ahead of the input improve the overall performance of the system that the AMC1303 is used in, which is why the placeholder components are on the evaluation module.  If you'd like to take this conversation off line and discuss details of your specific application, please let me know and I'll contact you directly.
