AMC1204-Q1: 16-bit INL on part?

Part Number: AMC1204-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC1204

The datasheet says the integral nonlinearity for ambient temperature range up to Ta=125 is +-16 LSB. for the Ta=85 range it is still +-8LSB, which seems incredibly high to me.  This is a 16-bit ADC so isn't the INL the entire reading of the device?

  • Does 16 LSB mean 16 COUNTS in LSB steps? So it would really be 4 bits of resolution?
  • Hi electronicjohn,

Technically, the AMC1204 is a delta-sigma modulator, so its not a complete ADC. It's basically the analog front end of a normal delta-sigma ADC without the filter. The AMC1204 provides a digital bit stream output and allows you to do the digital filtering as you see fit. The +/-8 LSB or +/-16 LSB values would be based on the counts in LSB steps. The effective number of bits for the AMC1204 is 14 when used with a sync 3 filter and oversampling rate of 256.
