ADS8900BEVM-PDK: sync sampling control

Part Number: ADS8900BEVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PSIEVM, ADS8900B

Hello,

We want to evaluate ADS8900BEVM-PDK while having the following questions

1, We can not find a link at TI official site to purchase PSIEVM, can you direct?

2, when evaluate ADS8900, we want to control the phase of acquire action related with input signal. In other words, does PHI board support external clock input? to make it run with the external clock source.

Regards,

LTL

  • LTL:

    1. The Precision Signal Injector (PSI) board is included in the kit.
    2. The PHI controller board does not currently support an external clock source. However, the sample rate of the ADC can be set in the user interface from your computer. Also, the PHI controller is completely asynchronous to the PSI analog signal, so the phase will be random.

  • Hi Bryan,

Besides PSI working as a signal source, we still want to test our own signal by using ADS8900EVM, sync sampling with signal source is a must.  So is there an clock out from PHI board? We can use the clock as base clock source for our system.

    Best Regards,

    LTL

  • LTL:

There is not currently a clock output supported by the PHI. The system, including the PSI signal source board, the ADS8900B EVM, the PHI controller board, and the software that runs on your PC, verifies the performance of the ADC without the implementation of coherent sampling. Typically, the test signal from the PSI is a 2kHz sine wave, sampled at 1MHz by the ADC. The samples are collected, an FFT is calculated, and a 7-term Blackman-Harris window is applied. Using windowing, performance can be demonstrated to be "very close" to coherently sampled data.
