ADS1299EEGFE-PDK: ADS1299EEGFE-PDK communication problem with evaluation software (NI)

Part Number: ADS1299EEGFE-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1299, ADS1298R

Setup:

Windows 7 32bits (in VMWare Workstation player)

When I start NI evaluation software communicate with board, USB communication going well at begining, but when it is time to execute reading registers ... progression turn very slow... without achieving it and NI software will crash if I try to use it. Any Ideas?

  • Hello Martin,

Thank you for your interest in the ADS1299 and sorry to hear that you are having issues with the software.

Do you receive an error message of any sort or does the program simply stop responding?
    Please attach a screenshot.

The software requires a specific order of operations in order to load correctly. If the following process was not executed correctly then uninstalling and reinstalling is a good idea.

    To correctly install the software:

    1) With the EVM disconnected from the PC, please install the ADS1298R EVM software as an Administrator from the online product folder.
    2) Without running the software after installation, please plug the daughter board in to the MMB0 and connect both power and USB cables.
    3) Then press and release the /RESET button (S3).
    4) Check Device manager for the "MMB0 (NI-VISA)" under "NI-VISA USB Devices."
    5) Finally, run the ADS1298R EVM software.

If these steps were not correctly followed then I would like you to try uninstalling everything. Please uninstall the ADS1299R PDK software. You'll find an uninstall executable under "C:\Program Files (x86)\ADS1299EEG-FE."
  • Hi Alex! Tx for your help, I have uninstall and install ADS1298R and same results. I have notice at step 4, MMBO (NI-VISA) in there (device manager). But after running software EVM it has changed for libusb-win32 devices ---USBStyx. Is this a standard action? Also my system: vm win7 64bits... this make a difference?
  • Some screen shots related to problem

FirstScreenShot: After install and reset hardware NI-VISA is there

Screenshot 2: (before hardware power on) I have notice this NI problem missing dll. but not sure if this impact usb com..

Third ScreenShot: Running software with plugged hardware EVM (USB is now LibUSB instead of NI... and sw not communicate with EVM...

  • Hi Martin,

Thank you for providing the screenshots and additional details.

After reviewing some old threads I believe that this may be a hardware configuration issue. Have you verified your hardware positions in the userguide?

  • Hi Alex,

yes it was a hardware configuration issue. Bad jumper setting. Could be interesting to add a section in doc for stand alone minimal setup connected with PC to ensure hw is 100% ready USB communication... With newer versions of windows we work a bit in dark... My Win7 VM setup is working but not my native Win10... Difficulte to troubleshoot when both sw and hw can be an issue...

    Tx Alex!

  • Hi Martin,

Glad to hear that your issue is resolved. I certainly agree!

Have a good rest of your day and let us know if you have any more questions!
