ADS7867: SPI format compatible to ADC101S021

Part Number: ADS7867
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC101S021

Hello,
customer want to use the ADS7867. They ask if they can use the ADC101S021 as 2nd source. Is the SPI format the same so that they can use same software?

Regards, Holger

  • Hello Holger,

Assuming that the customer is operating in the VA = 2.7V to 3.6V range, these devices are comparable with each other.

Regarding the SPI Interface, if you compare the interface timing waveforms for the two devices as shown below, you will see that the ADC101S021 requires 16 SCLK edges for each frame, but the ADS7867 can terminate the frame after 14 SCLKs. The extra clocks are fine with the ADS7867 since SDO is tri-stated after the 14th SCLK falling edge and the next frame is initiated with the CS fall edge.

So if the host controller firmware where to be built with 16 SCLKs even for the ADS7867, it should be possible to use the same firmware for both devices.
