DAC37J82: Why four analog outputs?

Part Number: DAC37J82
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC37J84

Hi,

I'm looking for ~1GSPS DAC with two analog outputs.

DAC37J82 is listed as "dual" and indeed has two digital paths, but four muxed analog outputs.

Why is that? Is it some reuse of existing analog front end? Or some applications actually require such muxing?

Can you suggest dual DAC without this overhead?

Thanks,
David.

  • David,

The DAC37J82 is part of the same family that has four DAC outputs (DAC37J84). TI offers this 4 DAC device at a discount by selling it as a 2 channel device but allows the user to use 2 of any of the 4 outputs. This sometimes helps during PCB layout.

    Regards,

    Jim
