ADS124S08: Delsig Evaluation software - Data analysis tool is not working

Part Number: ADS124S08
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS114S08,
Hi
When I connect the Delta-Sigma evaluation module with my laptop, the device is recognized and the registers are listed as follows:

But I am not able to use the Data analysis tool for capturing the data. The following error appears always:
"Could not connect to main client"

Could you please assist us how can we capture the data. I tried multiple attempts by plugging and unplugging but still no success.
Thanks and Regards

  • Hi Ramesh,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the forum!

Your pictures didn't come through, do you mind re-posting them?

What operating system is your computer using?

  • Hi Alexander,

I thank you very much for your reply. I am using Windows 10. I am not able to send the image files in the forum as attachments. May I know how can I attach the snapshot.

    Thanks

    Ramesh B

  • Hi Ramesh,

Click the "Insert Code, Attach Files and more...." to the right of the "Reply" button.
You may need to convert your pictures to another format to work properly. .jpg is a good choice.

  • The above image shows the device is being recognized. The message also says 'Hardware connected, Ready' (shown in the bottom).

But when Data Analysis tool button is clicked, the following message appears:

  • Hi Ramesh,

The post heading says ADS124S08, but the GUI says ADS114S08. Could you verify for us the label on the EVM?

    Thanks,
    Bob B
  • Hi Bob,

I am sorry. The part number is: ADS114S08.

    Thanks

  • Hi Ramesh,

We have not seen this specific problem before, so we are unsure of what might be happening. The Analysis Client is a separate application that runs along side the main GUI. The linkage between the two is not happening for some reason.

It is possible that another application is using the same socket as the one used in the GUI. You could try closing all other applications and any open windows to see if that makes a difference. It also may help to reboot your computer.

I would suggest going to your documents folder and search for the DSEvalSW folder. Inside of that folder is another folder called logs. Please zip the logs folder and attach to the post in similar way as you did the pictures.

One other possibility that I can think of is a security issue that may be blocking the opening of the connection. Are you using any virus or malware programs on your computer? And if so, which ones?

    Best regards,
    Bob B
  • Hi Bob,

I thank you very much for your reply. I attached the log files here as the reference. I will try closing other applications and try it again. One more information I would like to add. I have bought this evaluation board as new which is not working in Data Analysis tool. I already used one more same evaluation board earlier so the log files have that information also. The older evaluation board ( same product ) works fine and I could take data successfully. This is new evaluation board which is causing this problem. I tried to uninstall and install the software as well.

I am using Malwarebytes and Avast antivirus software in my PC. Kindly let me know if this could cause the issue.

    Thanks

  • Hi Ramesh,

Thanks for the log files. Just so I'm clear. You have two ADS114S08EVMs and one works on your computer but the other does not, is that correct?

Are you trying to have both EVMs plugged into the computer at the same time? And are you attempting to use 2 instances of the GUI? If so, that will not work.

If you try your old EVM today, will the data analysis work for that EVM? I would guess not as the issue is strictly a software related issue and not a hardware issue, but it would be a good experiment to try.

    Best regards,
    Bob B
  • Hi Bob,

Yes, that's correct. I have two ADS114S08EVMs and one worked fine with my PC(tested 2 months back) and other is not. The working one is bought 6 months earlier and the non working one is bought 1 month earlier.

I am not plugging in two EVMs at the same time. I am not attempting to use two GUI.

I currently don't have the working EVM with me so I cannot try for the working EVM. If this is software related issue, could you please help me how to fix it. Is it related to drivers but the device is detected properly. How to approach this issue.

    Thanks
    Ramesh B
  • Hi Ramesh,

It is not a driver issue, but rather two pieces of software attempting to communicate with each other.  It is difficult to say what is going on as the log files are just showing what we already know in that the Data Analysis client can't communicate to the main GUI application.  This would be similar to pinging a server using an IP address and getting no response back.

As I have not seen this issue before it is difficult to know where to start looking.  The only time I have seen something similar is if I start the GUI before plugging in the EVM to USB and then attempt to run the Data Analysis.  I would suggest always plugging in the EVM before starting the GUI application.  This seems to be important for Win10.

There could be some other piece of software installed that is blocking access to the socket by assigning or blocking a port for another purpose.  If you open a cmd window and type in 'netstat' you will get a listing of all connections in use.  The GUI uses port 11000, so after the GUI is started you would see something in netstat similar to:

You should only see port 11000 when the GUI is started and not before.  If you do, that could be the issue.

When the Data Analysis properly finds the desired port a connection will be made for the application to communicate with the GUI and the netstat output will be similar to:

The Data Analysis client needs to communicate to the main application at socket 11000 at the IP address shown.

    Best regards,

    Bob B

  • Hi Bob,

Thank you very much for your reply. I tried by plugging the EVM before starting the GUI but not resolved this issue. I tried this multiple times.

I could not see anything with respect to 11000 port when I type 'netstat' in command prompt. I will try in one more laptop and I will update you if the issue still exists in that laptop too.

    Thanks

    Ramesh B

  • Hi Ramesh,

I'm really sorry you are having issues. There is one thing that I've been assuming which may be a bad thing. I've assumed the install was completed with Administrator rights. This is required. One way to make sure is to right click on the installation file for the GUI and choose 'Run as administrator'.

Just so I'm making it clear, the port address of 11000 will only show up if the GUI has been started. If you do not see this, then this is a big clue. It would be very helpful to know if the other laptop has a similar failing mode or if it works as intended. You could then compare the installation files for both machines to see if there are differences or missing files.

The GUI install is in the folder \Program FIles (x86)\Texas Instruments\DSEvalSw. Inside that folder is an install log called 'DSEvalSW-installLog.log'. Could you attach that log file for me to review and compare?

    Thanks,
    Bob B
  • Hi,

The issue is with anti-virus. The anti-virus is blocking the installation as well as the linking between Data viewing tool and main tool. Once the anti-virus is disabled, I am able to get it work. I thank you very much for your help and support.

    Thanks

    Ramesh B

  • Hi Ramesh,

Thanks for the update! This will be useful to others in the future I'm sure.

    Best regards,
