ADS131A04: ADS131A04 limits if the negative charge pump enabled

Part Number: ADS131A04

Hi, In datasheet there is a phrase:

The minimum ADC absolute input voltage range is –1.5 V with the negative charge pump enabled. The maximum analog supply limit (AVDD – AVSS) is restricted to 3.6 V maximum. Exceeding this limit can permanently damage the device.

What limit are you talking about: about -1.5 V or 3.6 V  or both? What happens if the input voltage is -2 V?

  • Kost,

In the paragraph you quote, the limit is for the maximum analog supply. Exceeding 3.6V may cause damage to the device. For your reference, this is also listed in the Absolute Maximum Ratings table on page 7 of the datasheet.

As a follow-on comment to your post, I would note that the analog input recommended range (with the charge pump on) is AVSS-1.5V. This is found in the Recommended Operating Conditions table on page 8. However, the Absolute Maximum Rating is AVSS-1.65V from page 7. Having an analog input of AVSS-2V may damage the device.
