ADS112U04: Industrial safety

Part Number: ADS112U04
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1118, ADS112C04, ADS1120, ADS1114

Hi,

Customer is developing ESS and would like to adopt ADC for monitoring pack voltage.

Now considering ADS112U04 or ADS114 for 16bit, SPI/UART/I2C, CRC.

Is there any ADC for supporting industrial safety besides those devices?

Thanks.

  • Hi David,

by ESS you refer to a Energy Storage System I guess?
And by 'industrial safety' are you referring to 'functional safety'?

As of today we don't have any standalone ADC that was developed in compliance with any of the functional safety standards, such as IEC 61508 or ISO 26262 for example.
You would consider our ADCs commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components which can certainly be used in a functional safe system. But the user will have to make sure that the system meets his functional safety requirements.

We have multiple customers who successfully use ADCs such as ADS1114 (I2C) / ADS1118 (SPI) or ADS112U04 (UART) / ADS112C04 (I2C) / ADS1120 (SPI) in a functional safe battery management system.

If you only need to measure one battery pack voltage using a resistor divider, then those ADCs are all potential candidates.
The ADS112x series would often times be preferred, because it offers higher input impedance than the ADS111x series. The higher input impedance is beneficial when you need to measure the voltage on a high-ohmic resistor divider.

    Regards,
