ADS124S06: Are the calibration commands needed to ensure proper operation of this converter?

Part Number: ADS124S06

The data sheet shows three different calibration commands (SYOCAL, SYGCAL, and SFOCAL), yet the pseudo code example says nothing about their use.  Are they optional?  Is there some guidance on when and what kind of cal. commands should be used with this part?

  • Hi Keith,

I would recommend using the SFOCAL (self-offset calibration) to remove device offset for the ADS124S06 unless you intend to use global chop. The other two calibrations relate to system offset and system gain. In most cases these two calibrations are not used, but do allow the option of calibrating a system where there may be additional components that would create error (op amps or INAs for example). Using the system calibration requires that you set the input to a 0V point and a full-scale point. This is often more complicated then it is worth the results. You can always calibrate the system by code correction in firmware.

    Best regards,
