DAC081S101: Creating ADC-DAC voltage memory

Part Number: DAC081S101
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS7866, AMC7891

Hi Team,

I have customer inquiry below:

The customer wants to use an 8 Bit ADC with SPI output to directly connect to an 8 BIT DAC with SPI input to form what will essentially be an infinite hold time S/H.  Will the SPI output of a DAC081 directly drive the SPI input of an ADS7866 or some equivalent PN ADC to DAC combination?"

Thanks!

Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

No, they will not directly drive each other. Neither of these devices are an SPI master, meaning that something will need to drive the CS and SCLK signals. You will also need to make sure the SPI formats match (register addresses are compatible, length is the same, etc.). You could look at some of our devices that have an integrated ADC and DAC (AMC7891), but they will still need a master. I do not know of a device that has this functionality as a closed loop systems. I think you will need a MCU to help with this.

    Thanks,
    Paul
