ADS1261EVM: "Hardware is not connected" error

Part Number: ADS1261EVM

Problem

I have the ADS1261EVM and have connected it to two separate PCs with the provided USB cord and in both cases after starting the Delta Sigma Eval SW I get an error message at the bottom that says that the "Hardware is Not Connected.Ready...".

Background:

On both PCs, I have installed the following software and am running Windows 10 with Admin privileges

  • ADS1261EVM-dvcpkg
  • DELTASIGMAEVAL-GUI-installer
  • I have also installed BulkUsb_driver_install_x64-v1.0.0.1 from the following path, C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\DSEvalSW\Drivers\Installers

I've attached photos of the screen, the board, and a close up of the USB connector (J8) since it is suspiciously short, but I have pushed the USB cable all the way in (could that be the issue?)

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks

  • Hi Douglas,

Welcome to the TI E2E Forums!

I'm sorry the ADS1261EVM is giving you difficulties. Would you be able to share the application log files found in the C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME>\Documents\DSEvalSW\Logs\ folder?

Also, would you be able to check Windows Device Manager to see if the ADS1261EVM is properly enumerating as a (TivaWare) Generic Bulk Device?

    Thank you!

  • Hi Chris, thanks. Where would you expect this show up in the device manager?
  • Hi Chris,

    Thanks for your help.

I've attached a zip of the logs folder.

  • Here's a Generic Bulk Device. Is that it? I noticed talk about this in a similar forum.

Note, that I couldn't find anything dealing with the ADM1261EVM.

Should we set up a call?

    Driver details for above

It did not appear in the any other devices. Here are some screen shots showing other devices

  • Hi Douglas,

Yes, the ADS1261EVM is a generic bulk device. To be certain that you're looking at the correct device though, you can open the device properties and inspect the "Hardware Ids" to see if the VID = 1CBE and the PID = 0003, like so:

I would try manually installing this driver. The driver INF file is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\DSEvalSW\Drivers\usb_dev_bulk.inf. You can right-click on the Generic Bulk Device and select "Update Driver Software...". While following the prompts, be sure to select the "Browse my computer for driver software", "Let me pick from a list of devices", "Have Disk", and then browse to the above file path.

After installing the driver you should see the Generic Bulk device listed in Device Manager under a new "TivaWare Bulk Devices" category. Once you see this relaunch the Delta-Sigma EvaluaTIon Software and see if the EVM connects now.

If you still run into issues after the above steps. Open up the Delta-Sigma EvaluaTIon Software options window and check if the "User Directory" is pointing to the correct folder where the ADS1261EVM-DVCPKG was installed:

I think the above steps should fix the issue.

  • Hi Chris,

I've tried the instructions but with no success. So, I've removed and reloaded the files

    • ADS1261EVM-dvcpkg
    • DELTASIGMAEVAL-GUI-installer

    I'll attached the logs again.

I went through the directions you gave and ended up updating the Tivaware bulk devices to the file you pointed to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\DSEvalSW\Drivers\usb_dev_bulk.inf

Looking for Tivaware bulk devices - I don't see it.

Do you have any other suggestions? Do you want to do some sort of remote desktop?

Note - when I plug/unplug the device, I don't see anything changing in the device manager.

  • Also, please note that the Generic Bulk Device only shows up in the device manager when I click View / Show hidden devices.

  • Hi Douglas,

What is the state of the LEDs on the ADS1261EVM when plugged in?
If you see the orange D1 FAULT LED, then the EVM firmware is not properly flashed OR the Tiva MCU is being held in reset. In the former case, the ADS1261EVM will enumerate as a different type of device, a "Stellaris Device Firmware Upgrage". In the later, the EVM will not enumerate at all...

NOTE: Error Code 45 means that Windows is not able to detect that this device is connected. When plugging in the EVM you should see the Device Manager list refresh and the ADS1261EVM listed somewhere, whether the driver is installed or not.

If you cannot see the EVM anywhere in device manager, then please try a different USB port and/or a different USB cable. Sometimes a problematic port or cable might prevent it from enumerating.

If you still cannot see the EVM anywhere in this list, then perhaps it somehow got damaged, in which case we can try to get you a replacement EVM.

  • Hi Chris, thank you. It was the USB cable :)
