TSW14J56EVM: Customizable sample rate and CAD file availability

Part Number: TSW14J56EVM

In the GUI, why is the required sample rate a multiple of 256 and is there a way to change this? Also, does TI have the CAD files (step, igis, etc.) for the board available?

  • User,

This made the software easier. No, it cannot be changed. No, we do not have the CAD files. The cadence files for the board can be downloaded from the product folder on the TI website. You may be able to find a tool that could create the CAD files from this design database.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Jim,

Thanks for the lead on those cadence files, those will be helpful!

A clarifying example for the first question:

When trying to generate a 2.00MHz signal on the multitone generator in the GUI, after I 'Create Tones' the software will defy my input and generate a 2.10MHz signal with 4096 samples. This is unacceptable for my application.

I understand that with a fixed sampling rate of 1.2288GSPS (one of the 12 available presets), a 2.00MHz signal will not fit periodically inside the 4096 samples, however changing the frequency seems like the wrong way to ensure a periodic signal is stored in the DDR3 memory. To create a precise waveform, I need additional information regarding how to overcome the multiple-of-256-sample stipulation as well as why this design choice was made.

Thanks in advance for your time!

  • User,

I think this was based on the DDR memory and the firmware team that generated the source code. They informed me this is the way it is and cannot be changed without time and money. If this is something you would like to pursue, I can pass on the name of the third party company we used to generate this code and software.

    Regards,

    Jim
