ADS1278: GUI not working with EVM

Part Number: ADS1278
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADCPRO

Hi Team,

One of my customer is evaluating device EVM and facing issues during evaluation. Customer is using ADS1278-EVM PDK with MM0 Motherboard, faced some error while installing the software but when reinstalled it was fine. The Power adapter is not working hence the MM0 is powered from +5V through J14. The MM0 alone is taking around 80mA and with ADS1278 its taking around 240mA. The MM0 is connected to PC with Windows XP through ADCPro Software. The Test mode and EVM is loaded and its showing "connected". When the data is acquired its showing "collecting data" but no data is displayed. The screen shot of the same is attached for your reference. Can you please help with your comments to address the same.

Thanks in advance for your help and support.

Regards, Shinu Mathew.

  • Hi Shinu,

    Thank you for your post!

I take it you have the MMB0 Rev D schematic? Just in case, I'll repost it below. Applying an external 5 V to J14 should work as long as one of the J13 jumpers is installed (A or B). This will connect the external supply to the "+5V" rail. Alternatively, you can uninstall J12 and apply the external 5 V to J12[1].

Are you able to acquire data with any of the other Tools (i.e. scope or histogram)?

Please share a screen capture showing how the EVM is enumerating in Device Manager.

  • Hi Ryan,

    Thanks for the reply.

J13 is properly placed, will check once and get back.

    Regards, Shinu Mathew.

  • Hi Ryan,

    1)J13B is connected.

2)No data is showing in scope/histogram

3)Please find attached the device manager.

When we press the daughter board on to mother board, the current was exceeding the limits (0.4A). When we put an insulation below the pins of the daughter board connectors, it was coming back to normal.

  • Hi Shinu,

It looks like the EVM is enumerating correctly.

So just to confirm, your customer is connecting an external 5-V supply to J14[3 or 5]Just to understand the power measurements correctly, the external 5 V supply is sourcing:

    1. 80 mA to MMB0 alone
    2. 240 mA to MMB0 when ADS1278EVM daughtercard is installed
    3. > 400 mA to MMB0 when ADS1278EVM daughtercard is installed AND you press down on the daughtercard.

Check the resistor pack on the back of the daughtercard (near the top). When the daughtercard is pressed down, the resistor pack may be pressing against the USB connector housing, which is tied to ground.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Ryan,

Customer put an insulating sheet between the daughter card and mother board and the current is normal, with this they are trying to capture the data.

Do we need to check any other parameters as customer is not able to capture data with GUI.

    Regards, Shinu Mathew.

  • Hi Shinu,

Are all switches and jumpers in their default position? Please see Figure 1 in the User Guide:

    Regards,

  • Hi Ryan,

    Thanks for the support.

The issue was due to supply and jumper settings.

    EVM is functional now.

    Regards, Shinu Mathew.
