ADS8555: Unipolar operation

Part Number: ADS8555
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8586S

Hi Team,

Is is possible to operate the ADS8555 inputs as unipolar while keeping the HVSS at AGND? I have a customer who needs the SimSam capability of the device but doesnt need the negative input range.

Regards,

Mihir

  • Hi Mihir Gupta65,

The maximum voltage that should be applied to ADS8555's HVSS is -5V. If the customer wants to save the high voltage power supply, they can use ADS8586S which is 6-ch 16-bit simultaneous sampling ADC and has integrated analog front-end with +5V single power supply, basically there is no need to drive this ADC with external amplifier. However, they will lose half dynamic range if the input signal range is only from 0 to 10V.

    Thanks&regards,

    Dale

  • Hi Dale,

Thanks for the feedback. The ADS8586S is unfortunately not fast enough. The customer needs a minimum of 400kSps with 11 channels. Do you have any recommendations for a solution here where a negative power supply rail is not required?

    Regards

    Mihir

  • Hi Mihir,

ADS8588H can meet your requirements (500ksps sampling rate per channel and single +5V power supply, 8-ch inputs per device).

    Regards,

    Dale
