TSC2046E: Difference between TSC2046E and TSC2046

Part Number: TSC2046E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TSC2046, TPD1E1B04

Hi,

I would like to ask you some questions about TSC2046E/2046 as below.

Q1) What is the difference between TSC2046 and TSC2046E?

I think that major point is about the specification of "IEC 61000-4-2 ESD Requirements".

Is this correct? Is there any other differnt?

Q2) ESD specification of TSC2046

There is no description about ESD specification on TSC2046 datasheet.

Will you tell me that?

Q3) Do you have the TSC product which is like "TSC2046E+reset pin"?

Becasue TSC2046E/2046 does not have "reset" pin.

I suppose it seems to have a little trouble when TSC2046E/2046 is hung-up.

Please let me know such kind of TSC product if you have.

Q4) ESD protection diode

Will you recommend me ESD protection diode for TSC2046E/2046?

I suppose that like TPD1E1B04 products seem to be suitable for TSC2046E/2046.

And also will you tell me how to select the diode? What is the key points to select?

Thank you for your support.

Best Regards,

  • Hello Takumi,

See my answers to your questions below:

Q1) You are correct. The only difference between the two is that the TSC2046E has enhanced ESD protection.

    Q2) ESD information for TSC2046:

    HBM: 8kV

    CDM: 1kV

    MM: 200V

As for the TSC2046E, it mentioned in the datasheet that the device "Exceeds IEC61000-4-2 ESD Requirements - 15kV Contact Discharge - No External Components Needed

Q3) There are several  4-wire TSCs that have a RESET pin. You can look at the TSC2017, TSC2013 and TSC2014

Q4) A bidirectional TVS diode that can protect against the level of transients being applied should be used. The diode would need a working voltage above the recommended operating voltages and a breakdown voltage below the Abs. Max ratings of the device.

  • Aaron-san,

    Thank you for your reply!

Let me confirm following things for sure.

     - Basically TSC2046E does not need "external cmponents" like TVS diode, correct?

     - TPD1E1B04 is possible to use to protect TSC2046(also TSC2046E), correct?

     Thanks and Best Regards,

  • Takumi-san,

You are correct, the TSC2046E would not need external components but extra protection wouldn't hurt.

As for the TPD1E1B04, that diode is possible to use for TSC2046 or TSC2046E. In the data sheet, it specs a max working voltage of 3.6V which is equal to the max VCC for the TSC2046/E and the breakdown voltage is 6.4V which is higher than the abs. max for the TSC2046/E.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Aaron
