DAC8742HEVM: Interfacing HART transmitter

Part Number: DAC8742HEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC8742H

Hi Team,

Can we connect the HART transmitter directly to the DAC8742HEVM?

I understand that the additional circuity given on page 30 of the datasheet was given for signal conditioning and further accuracy of the transmitter.

However our customer would like to know the possibilities of directly connecting the transmitter to the EVM. Can you give us an insight on this?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Jejomar

  • Jejomar,

The circuit on page 30 of the datasheet is not actually there to improve the accuracy of the DAC8742H. The most common deployment of HART is a point-to-point communication setup between a 2-wire sensor transmitter and an analog input module or a hand-held HART secondary master.

The circuit in Figure 34 is the transmitter portion of a 2-wire sensor transmitter circuit (it is missing the sensor / ADC).

With the different topologies associated with HART, whether or not the EVM could communicate with another HART device (or, what that setup would look like) depends on how the other HART device looks.
