Thank you for your post and welcome to our forum.
I agree the data sheet is a bit unclear. It describes the REFP_x and REFN_x pins as "positive/negative reference input for ADC x". Yet, these pins are listed as "Analog outputs" only.
Please allow me to confirm the intended operation of the reference pins with the team.

The ADS9224R does not support an external reference voltage.
Do you prefer to use an external reference? Is it because you're interested in higher performance?

High accuracy and low long term and over temperature drift are required, so an external reference is preferred.
Any suggestions for an alternate part?
