ADS1258EVM-PDK: Unable to Connect MMB0 to Computer

Hi Drew,

Can you elaborate by "can't read data"? Does that mean you cannot get ADCpro to work? You cannot get the device package to work? Both ADCpro and the device package respond, but there's nothing on the ADC output? It's not exactly at which stage your problem is occurring.

Any more information will be helpful to diagnosing what's going on. Thanks!

When trying to connect the MMB0 to ADCPro I get the "No Firmware Found" error thats been discussed on other posts about ADCPro. I don't know what the output of the ADC is since the device can't connect to the software.  My initial thought is that the problem is with the MMB0 instead of the eval board or the drivers, since there isn't any enumeration in Device Manager. I can see that the voltages on the board are correct, both with the status LEDs and a multimeter.

Do you see any "unknown devices" in Device manager, and/or do you see the "NI-VISA" and "USBStyx" devices, shown in Figures 12 and 20 of the ADS1258EVM-PDK User's Guide?

If you see the NI-VISA (before loading the ADS1258EVM plugin), but not the USBStyx device (after loading it) then you may need to try to re-install the MMB0 driver. There should be an MMB0 driver installer located on your hard drive under C:\Program Files (x86)\ADCPro\drivers\

No there is no entry in the Device Manager at all. Usually when a USB device is plugged in/unplugged it triggers a refresh of the Device Manager window, but that doesn't happen for this board. I tried different USB cables which work with other devices, so I don't think thats the issue.

How are you powering the MMB0?

The USB cable doesn't provide power to the MMB0, so you'll need to connect it to a bench supply...we used to include a wall adapter but ran into issues trying to find a wall adapter that met all of the various power supply requirements when shipping internationally.

Once powered, you should see an "NI-VISA" entry in device manager.

I'm using bench supply to power it, not the USB. Still nothing in the Device Manager. I have tried both the barrel jack and the screw terminals for the supply.

Are you seeing all of the LED supply indicators when powering the MMB0?

Yes and I checked the power pins on the ADS1258EVM to make sure it was getting the correct voltages.

Are you running on Windows 10? If so, I've seen a previous E2E thread where disabling Windows driver signature enforcement and updating the NI-VISA driver to version 17.0 or later has worked to resolve the EVM connection issue. If you update to the latest NI-VISA driver it may already be signed and not require you disable Windows driver signature enforcement.

Again, I don't think its the drivers for the device since the Device Manager isn't showing any entries for the MMB0 at all. I tried it anyway, but it didn't help. The driver was successfully installed according to the log, but still nothing is showing up in Device Manager.

Understood. Unfortunately, at this point the only additional recommendations I have are:

1) If you can, try to see if you can get the EVM to work on a different PC (in case of OS incompatibility or user policy preventing the EVM from connecting)

2) We can try to get you a replacement ADS1258EVM-PDK in case of a hardware issue with the MMB0 you received.
