ADS1220: as alternative for ADS1262 in TIDA-00550

Part Number: ADS1220
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00550, ADS1262, , ADS124S08

Hello.

We are going to use  TIDA-00550 as a reference for universal analog input module.

But we would like to use different ADC, than used in original design.

We want to replace ADS1262 by ADS1220.

Could you please advise, what are the hidden issues could be faced on this way?

What the recommendations could you give to perform this substitution?

Thank you.

  • Hi Slava,

Although it is possible to create a universal input module with the ADS1220, you will not get the same level of performance compared to the ADS1262.  Also note that the TIDA-00550 uses many input channels, whereas the ADS1220 only has 4 possible inputs.  To achieve a universal input module a number of jumpers, switches or muxes external to the ADS1220 must be used.  This will add potential leakage paths adding error in the measurement.  Also consider the ADS124S08 as an alternative.  This device is designed for this type of purpose.

Whatever path is chosen you need to determine if the additional control and total error when using the ADS1220 is worth the effort compared to using a device such as the ADS124S08.

    Best regards,
