ADS131A02: Can we read channel 1 data only?

Part Number: ADS131A02

Hi Experts,

We use ADS131A02 with ch 1 data only. In this case, does ADS131A02 output Status + ch1 data + CRC or Status + ch1 data + ch2 data + CRC?

Figure 54 shows only all channel enabled case so I want to know the data frame for ch1 with CRC disabled.

Regards,

Hisao Uchikoshi

  • Uchikoshi-san,

The ADS131A02 communications is very rigid about communications. If the device is in Fixed-Frame communication mode, the device is expecting communication with four data words, even if one channel is disabled and the CRC is disabled.

Note, if you are in Fixed-Frame communication mode, and you clock out only two words when the device is expecting four words, you will get the data for the enabled channel. However, this is still seen by the device as a communication error. A command sent on DIN would not be executed, and there will be an F_SPI error, indicated in the STATUS response.

If the ADS131A02 is being used in Dynamic-Frame communication mode, and one channel is disabled and the CRC is disabled, then the communication would be two data words.
