ADS8689: SPI bus connection

Part Number: ADS8689
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC7565

Hi team,

Could you give me comment on following customer question?

Q1. Can the customer connect to the same SPI bus with DAC7565? Do you have any concerns about it?

Best regards,

Takeshi Sasaki

  • Hi Takeshi,

It's possible to use the same SPI for both devices, a dedicated pin can be used for CONVST/CS signal of the ADC, pull this signal to high when the controller is not communicating with the ADC. However, I do not suggest to use this solution because of driving, loading on the bus and other potential risks. A logic bus buffer device is recommended to isolate the digital bus.

    Best regards,

    Dale

  • Hi Dale,

Thank you for your comment. Could you give me additional customer question?

Q1. Could you suggest specific recommended devices in TI? Isolation is needed other than bus buffer? When the customer has specific devices, they will be able to imagine how to implement it.

    Best regards,

    Takeshi Sasaki

  • Hi Takeshi,

I forgot this is an ADC with serial interface, not parallel interface. Additional propagation delay on the serial bus may lead to incorrect data reading, thus please just use a dedicated /CS signal for the ADC.

    Best regards,

    Dale
