ADC08D1520RB: Can ADC08D1020 be Installed on ADC08D1520RB?

Part Number: ADC08D1520RB
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC08D1020, , LMX2541

Hi, team

One customer have the ADC08D1520RB evaluation board. I'd like to evaluate the ADC08D1020 using the '1520 board.
Can the '1520 be lifted out, and replaced by a '1020, and used directly on the board? (The packages & pinouts are identical.) Are there any physical/firmware/software changes that must be made (such as LMX2541 version, etc.)?

The only difference I see between the 2 parts ('1520 and '1020) are conversion speed.

Thanks

  • Hi Chenkai,

Unfortunately, if the customer plans to use the TI ADC08D1520RB EVM and swap this part out for the ADC08D1020 this won't work.

There is special firmwave inside the FPGA that recognizes which part was originally placed on the EVM.

It would be best to purchase the ADC08D1020 EVM instead.

    Regards,

    Rob

  • Hi, Rob

Thanks so much for your reply.

I do not find the ADC08D1020 EVM on TI's website or at distributors. When I look at the ADC08D1020 product page, only the '1520 EVM is shown.
Please inform how to obtain an ADC08D1020 EVM.

If the ADC08D1020 EVM you suggested is not available, please help me with a product to exercise the '1020 IC.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Chenkai,

I think the best course of action, would be for the customer to purchase the ADC081520 EVM. Then use the external clock option to provide a sample clock to the EVM at 1020MSPS.

Essentially, these two parts are close enough in their design that this the reason only one EVM is offered.

    Rob

  • Hi Rob,

    Good day.

Would you please determine if there is firmware to change also, or just the clock?
If there is special firmware, please help me obtain any correct firmware and help me put it into the FPGA.

(as you quoted in the first reply, and I quote below)

I checked with our product line expert, I just copy the answer from him:

  • Hi Chenkai,

I am taking this off line and will respond via email.
