ADS1278EVM-PDK / ADC PRO

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADCPRO, ADS1278

Duh question answers:   Windows 7.  Working internet connection.  Have the EVM.  Have downloaded software three times - adcpro-laucher-1.0.exe.  We do not own a copy of labview.  EVM is connected to power.  EVM is connected to USB through a cable that - by the way - wasn't provided with the EVM.  Really?  Charge $150 and stiff me for a $2 cable?

I run the program.  It tells me ADC Pro isn't installed.  Only option - a button that says get ADC Pro.  Isn't ADC Pro what I just installed?  It is 140 Meg - sheesh - what else would we have downloaded?

I click the darn button.  After a few seconds I get the message that I don't have internet.  Bovine excretion.  I have internet.  I am typing this message to the forum over the internet.

I ignore, I get the same message again.  I hit continue with limited functionality, I get into an endless cycle if installation.  A what's new section, installed plug-ins section that never changes, and scrolling squares that says intitializin.  It has been intializing for 30 minutes.  I've done this several times.  Always the same.

Congratulations - I just wasted $150 on an EVM I cannot use because the software is a piece of junk.

  • Hi, Bruce,

    Sorry we missed your post.

This isn't an audio device, so I have no knowledge, but I'm betting the GUI isn't compiled for win7 if it's a labview executable. It was made before win7 was a glimmer in Bill's eye. So, if you still have an old xp box sitting in the corner used to prop up the leg of your bench, give that a go.

I will move your post to the data converter e2e where hopefully someone with direct knowledge of this EVM will chime in.

  • The link on the ADCPro product folder downloads an installer which will install the Launcher application and the LabVIEW Runtime Engine since this is a requirement for all LabVIEW programs.  When the Launcher runs, it should attempt to download the actual ADCPro application and install it (along with any plugins that you selected).  We are aware of an issue with the LabVIEW functions that sometimes report incorrectly that there is no internet connection.  We have noticed that when both ethernet and wireless connections are present this occurs, but there may be other conditions as well.

NOTE:  You only need to do one of the below installations.

If you have already downloaded and installed the Launcher, you can manually download and install what should happen at the startup from the following link:

    ftp://ftp.ti.com/pub/data_acquisition/ADCPro2/adcpro-setup-2.0.1.exe

If you removed the Launcher application, you will need to download the complete package from the following link:

    ftp://ftp.ti.com/pub/data_acquisition/ADCPro2/no_internet_version/adcpro-wlvrt-2.0.1.exe

After this, you can get the ADC plug-in from the product folder (in this case http://www.ti.com/tool/ads1278evm-pdk).  Once it is installed, you should be able to run ADCPro and load the plug-in.  On the first run, you will see drivers installed; view the ADCPro and ADS1278 users guides for more information.

  • An XP machine in the corner?  Really?  Nope we don't have antiques.  We are now on Windows 8.1,  Both XP and Windows 7 are old versions we no longer support.

  • Dear Bruce,

I am really sorry to hear that you are getting frustrated with our ADS1278 EVM and had such a bad experience so far.

Unfortunately most of our delta-sigma ADC EVMs don't support Windows 8 at this point.
We were in the opinion that most companies have not switched over to Windows 8 as a corporate OS yet and probably will never do. Therefore we didn't spend the time and resources to migrate our software at this point.
The ADS1278 EVM product folder mentions that the requirement for the EVM is Windows XP or 7.

Regarding the USB cable, we more or less took for granted that everybody in the meantime is flooded with USB cables. So in an attempt to save world's resources we made the decision not to put the USB cable into the box. This is not about cost savings. Actually we usually sell our EVMs at or below our manufacturing cost. We don't want to make profit with our EVMs.

If there is anything we can do for you right now please let us know.
I don't think I can reimburse you for the EVM cost, but we could certainly send you free samples of ADS1278 in case you need to build a prototype.

    Kind regards,
