Does the DAC38j84 check PRBS before or after the 8b10b decode? Does the PRBS sequence need to be continuous within a lane or across lanes for a multi-lane configuration?

Hi Scott,
The PRBS sequence does not go through any encoding. You can consider it to be generated at the 10-bit level (after 8b/10b) and checked before the 8b/10b decoding in the receiver.
The PRBS sequence is done at the lane level. So each lane acts independent of the other lanes, i.e. "it is continuous within a lane". Each lane is running the same sequence.
