ADS1299 ECG implementation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1299

Hi

I would like to implement an ECG headset with ADS1299.

Before I start, there are some clarifications which i hope someone can advise me

  • For Analog supply, there are 2 options, bipolar or unipolar supply operation. Pls let me know which option I should select.
  • For ADC input, what should I consider to choose single ended input or differential input?
  • What are the concern points on choosing the reference & bias electrodes? Do I need external drive for bias & reference electrode?
  • We are going to use the dry electrodes in our EEG headset design, what is the concern points I should take special care?

Are there any app notes or ref solution that we can refer to

Ivan

  • Hey Ivan,

    • Either option works, but the bipolar supplies may end up being more convenient for input biasing.
    • That depends on what you want to measure. Are you measuring all electrodes with respect to a reference electrode or are you measuring potential between individual electrodes?
    • I can help you more if I know your exact electrode setup. You shouldn't need an external driver unless you plan on sourcing or sinking more current than is allowed by the bias amplifier.
    • I don't know much about electrodes so I may not be much help here.

I am not aware of any app notes specifically for EEG measurement, but you can always look at the ADS1299 EVM as a bit of a design guide. I wouldn't necessarily copy it exactly since it has a lot of things that are probably superfluous for a streamlined application, but you can at least see a valid schematic.

  • HI Brian

Can i send you a schematics offline for some comments?

In case you miss my earlier request, any way, could i have some response from you

    Ivan

  • Hey Ivan,

Sorry I did not respond because of the holidays. You can send schematics to pa_deltasigma_apps@ti.com.
