ADS7883EVM: SPI communication with another board with different GND

Hi,

I'm trying to read data from the ADS78883 using SPI with an FPGA eval board. I power the ADS7883 with a standard DC supply while the FPGA board receives power from my PC via USB. Is this an issue in terms of ground? How should I connect the boards so that they have the same ground?
