ADS1298R: ADS1298R with RLD enabled in parallel with another ECG recording system

Part Number: ADS1298R

I'm using ADS1298R in my monitoring ECG device and have RLD activated. Would there be an interference if I another ECG recording system with RLD activated is hooked up to the patient?

  • Hi Roy,

Welcome to the E2E forum! Thank you for your post.

The RLD is a closed-loop system to improve the CMR (common-mode rejection) performance of the ECG system. If there are 2 RLD bias circuits are activated and connected to the patient, then there will be a contention of the RLD drive bias on the patient. Depending on the state of RLD bias circuits, it may interfere with the other ECG system's input and causes the other system to fail.

Is there a specific used case that you are using 2 RLD drives on the same patient?

    Thanks.

  • Hi TC, there was an idea by the marketing folks that two ECG devices could be connected. Is there a risk that the device could get into an oscillating state?

  • Hi Roy,

Are they referring to using multiple ADS129x devices in the hardware? We have some recommendations on how to configure the RLD with multiple devices. Please see the attached diagram below for the RLD configuration with multiple devices.

I'm not sure what will happen to the complete ECG system If they refer to connect 2 ECG systems to the patients with 2 RLD electrodes.

You can reach out to us at ads129x-support@list.ti.com - ADS129x AFEs support to further discuss the application usage.

    Thanks.
