ADS1248: Temperature Diode Query

Part Number: ADS1248

Hi Guys,

I'm currently using the ADS1248 as part of a data acquisition system.

I've noticed that the temperature sense diode gives slightly different readings(for example at 23 degrees celcius, some will read 118mV and others will read 116mV,117mV) between different ADS1248 chips on different PCBs. Is this to be expected?

Kind Regards,

  • Hi Akshay,

Yes, this is to be expected. The ADS1248 only has the typical value for temp sensor performance, with no min / max values. The ADS1248 is a course measurement only and is not factory trimmed for performance. This differs from devices such as the ADS1220 which has trimmed temperature sensor.

It is possible to calibrate the error but this would have to be done for each device as there will be device to device variation as well as lot to lot variation.  This variation could be in the range of 3 to 6 deg C. Also, keep in mind that the temperature is the die temperature. There could be some variation relative to ambient or board temperature with respect to die temperature.
