ADS1298R: Daisy chain continuous mode

Part Number: ADS1298R

Hi all,

I have a question regarding continuous mode in daisy chain configuration,

  • Is it possible to run the ADS in continuous mode while it is configured as daisy chain?
  • if yes do we do this using the shared system clock only, without need for a special synchronization mechanism
  • if no special mechanism needed, what is the meaning of this paragraph in the datasheet page 56, regarding synchronization of multiple devices

  • Hi Jameel,

    Thanks for the post.

Yes, the ADS129x can operate in continuous mode while in the daisy-chain configuration mode. It is recommended to use the same system clock and the START signal to synchronize the ADS output, as shown in Figure 66(b) of the datasheet, to achieve simultaneous sampling.

    Thanks

  • Hi TC,

    Thank you for the help.
Just to be clear on the synchronization, it is done once at the start of the continuous conversion correct ? not on each individual conversion ?

I mean, I create the start pulse and then send the RDATAC command and the data should be synchronized from that point on  ?

  • Hi Jameel,

Yes, the synchronization is only done once at the start of the continuous conversion. You can always use the START pulse to resynchronize the devices at any time if, by any chance, the devices are out of synchronization.

    Thanks
